Lester Perkins
I was born in Columbia, Missouri and have lived most of my life in the central MO area.
My interest in art started early in life and in 1950 at the age of 18
years old I took it seriously enough to try my first oil painting. I am a
self-taught artist painting the things that interest me. My medium of
choice is oil. My first paintings were of a number of locations in
Rocheport, Missouri where I lived at the time. A street scene I painted
in 1969 is on display in the Rocheport Museum. Art to me has always been
a way to relax, unwind and simply to do something I love. My subject
matter is constantly changing and is considered by many to look like
photographs but there is no doubt in anyones mind what they are seeing. I
leave it up to others to define my art as I have never been good at it
myself. My art has been on exhibit in several mid-Missouri shows and
also two invitational shows, one in Kansas City and one in Excelsior
Springs, MO. I have received numerous awards including first, best of
show, and Peoples’ choice.
