Barbara Niekamp
Barbara Niekamp
As a child of six years, Barbara decided to
become an artist. Mostly self-taught, through many years of study,
she is now realizing that dream. She paints a wide variety of subjects,
including portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and murals. She has
enjoyed completing commissioned works, and seeing the enjoyment of the
owners at the unveiling of their very own painting. Her original works
and reproductions are included in several private collections.
In
her portraits, she portrays a glimpse of the subject’s personality in a
realistic manner. She enjoys painting people of all ages, as well as
pets. She especially enjoys doing portraits of children, capturing the
energy and innocence that is as fleeting as time itself.
Inspired
by nature, her landscape paintings capture the light and mood of a
special moment in time, when the elements come together to create a
lively and dramatic scene.
Capturing the beautiful yet
transient blooms of flowers, or perhaps the freshness of fruit are
themes of her still life paintings.
In addition to landscapes,
still lifes and portraits, she also has painted fine art murals. Some
of the murals are in local churches, and she enjoys painting
inspirational works, as seeing the beauty God has created in the world
inspires her to paint, and reminds her to “begin again” each new day.
“But I will call this to mind,
as my reason to have hope:
The favors of the Lord are not exhausted,
his mercies are not spent;
They are renewed each morning,
so great is his faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:21-23 (NAB)
