J. Penny Burton

J. Penney Burton

J. Penney Burton is currently an MFA Candidate at the University of Missouri, Columbia, studying with Jo Stealey in the Fibers Department.   Alongside a BFA in Interdisciplinary Art from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, Burton holds a Master in Fine Arts from Concordia University, in which she combined studio fiber art with art and craft history, specializing in contemporary North American fiber art and artists. Notable exhibitions include the International Linen Biennial 2009, for which Burton was selected as an emerging artist, as well as selection into the International juried exhibitions Inventive Structures: Books Beyond the Codex, held in New Haven, Connecticut in 2010 and juried by Heidi Kyle and Sequential Fibers 2010, juried by Karen Kunc, and held in Lincoln, Nebraska in conjunction with the 2010 Textile Society of America symposium.  Burton’s current artistic direction examines the transmutation and transformation of materials and objects imbued with a sense of place, which are intimately connected to our familial, cultural and collective psyches.
