Carla McFarland
creates original stained glass and mosaic pieces that utilize colorful
glass as well as seashells, agate slices, beads, stones crystals,
ceramic tile and recycled car windshield. While some pieces are
geometric, other reflects designs taken from nature.
Carla has
shown her work at the Art in the Park in Columbia, Missouri, the Mosaics
Show in St. Charles, Missouri, and various other shows in Columbia,
Sedalia, Cape Girardeau, St. Genevieve, and St. Louis County. She was
awarded a first prize and an honorable mention at the Boone County Art
show. She has completed several private commissions. Her work is on
display in the chapel at Boone Landing retirement Center in Columbia, as
well as at the Columbia Art League.
In 2002, Carla retired
after teaching junior high special education for twenty five years.
Needing a creative outlet, she took a three day class in stained glass
and was hooked. After learning the basic techniques, she began to create
her own designs incorporating found objects, such as seashells and
agate slabs.
Carla received her Master’s in Education in 1976,
and her Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1974 from the
University of Missouri, Columbia. She was born in Moberly, Missouri in
1952.
