Debbie Schluckebier
Debbie Schluckebier has been a handweaver for 25 years. She uses the colors, patterns, and textures of nature as her inspiration.
As a little girl, Debbie remembers weaving colored strips of paper for a craft project at camp. She was fascinated with the colors going over and under. When she was married, living in Columbia, she signed up for a class at the former Weaver’s Store owned by Barbara Overby. Barbara patiently taught Debbie on a rigid heddle loom. It was then Debbie realized she had found her creative outlet.
Raising three sons and working as a librarian has left precious time for weaving. But Debbie has sold many items at the Columbia Weaver’s and Spinner’s Guild annual sale. It is a joy for her to see people excited about what she has designed and created.
She says, “I love to create an idea into something that can be touched, used, and loved.”
