Born: Kansas City, Missouri

I love painting my daughters life experiences, sculpture, watercolor, and just watching canvas materialize. My style is Realism; periodically I’ve been known to dabble in the Constructivist. Painting in the abstract demonstrates little to me other than willingness too associate big words in trying to describe your work. Thematic developments are influenced through Jazz and Gospel, children in genre, religious metaphors, and historical pictorials. Artists who have influenced me: Henry O. Tanner, and Dean L. Mitchell. I’m influenced more in how they approach life, versus their art, although in Dean’s case it’s definitely art. If I tell you how far art has taken me, and the blessings I’ve received through it, most wouldn’t believe me anyway. My philosophy of life is simple today: “If God gives you a special talent at birth, it cannot be taken from you by man, he can only hinder it. If you’re squandering that precious gift, remember who gave it to you, for it’s just a gift. Only emulate those with more talent than you, and be careful whom you emulate, then harden your mind to criticism.“You can view and read about my work at www.essexgarner.com.
